Introduction
The MA programme in choreography is a two-year full-time residency programme at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. We contribute to the development of performing arts and artists’ role in society through a historically aware and contextually responsive understanding of choreography as both international and local artistic practice and a research area. We seek openness and dialogue with the arts community and aim to strengthen mutual and intercultural understanding in society and the arts, as well as cooperation with other art forms and fields of research.

Artistic Practice and Research study option includes individual artistic projects that focus on different approaches to artistic research, choreography and collaboration.

Theoretical framework in the Master’s studies
Theoretical studies provide a place to reflect on, explore and research topical discourses, methodologies, and conceptual tools within choreography and performance and in relation to larger societal and philosophical contexts.

Nordic Choreographic Platform (NCP)
The platform supports Nordic educational exchange and collaboration in the field of choreography. It is part of the annual studies of the master’s programme in choreography. The implementation of the studies varies from year to year.

Tuition fees
Tuition fees at Uniarts Helsinki are applicable to bachelor and master students who study in English and who are not citizens of EU, EEA, or Switzerland.

Artistic research and publications
The first doctoral dissertation from Theatre Academy was published in 2001. MA programme in choreography has a strongly research oriented approach to choreography, that gives the student good readiness for postgraduate studies. The programme collaborates with the Performing Arts Research Center TUTKE. It is also a crucial agent in Theatre Academy’s publication series Kinesis, that focuses on research on dance.
